Dagens baghave:

Backyard of the Day:

Bird Rock, La Jolla, San Diego County, California

Bird Rock is located off the coast at the western end of Bird Rock Avenue in La Jolla, San Diego County, California.

We were expecting a really good low tide this afternoon, so we day camped at Bird Rock in La Jolla and waited patiently.

It was high tide when we set up camp. There is no actual beach at Bird Rock. Most of the time the water goes clear up to the bulwark at the seawall protecting the houses up above. It is only at low tide it is possible to walk around here.

Bird Rock is a perch for sea gulls, brown pelicans, and lots of cormorants.

A dog walk, seven home school books, and a little nap later, the sun had come out from behind the clouds, the ocean had retreated, and it was time to go out exploring amongst the tide pools.

As usual there were lots and lots of gorgeous sea anemones, which I absolutely love. This one is called a Sunburst Anemone.

At low tide you can walk all the way out to Bird Rock without getting wet, so drastic are the tidal variations.
