Gilman Ranch Historic Park and Wagon Museum, Banning, Riverside County, California

The Gilman Historic Ranch and Wagon Museum is located at 1937 West Gilman Street, which is, for all intents and purposes, the corner of 16th and Wilson Streets in Banning, Riverside County, California.

Open Saturdays, other times by appointment.

 

Vi tog et smut til Banning for at se den gamle Gilman Ranch.

We day tripped to Banning to see the old Gilman Ranch House.

 

 

 

 

Det flotte gamle stuehus på gården, bygget i 1879, nedbrændte i 1977 og er genopbygget for nyligt.

The beautiful old ranch house, built in 1879, burned down in 1977 and was rebuilt only recently.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Huset er omgivet af citrustræer og på et tidspunkt også en olivenlund, som siden er nedbrændt.

The house is surrounded by citrus trees and at one time also by an olive grove, which has since burned in a wildfire.

I huset boede James Marshall Gilman og familie.
James Gilman kom til vestkysten fra New Hampshire i 1860erne. Han giftede sig 11 januar 1871 with Martha "Mattie" Benoist Smith, og de fik otte børn, af hvilke den næstyngste, en lille dreng ved navn Harry døde som to-årig i 1888.

In the house lived James Marshall Gilman and family. James Gilman came to the West Coast from New Hampshire in the 1860s. 11 January 1871 he married Martha "Mattie" Benoist Smith, and the couple had eight children, of which a little boy named Harry died in 1888 at age two.

Day Camping/Boondocking Information

The Gilman Ranch Historic Park and Wagon Museum is a good spot for day camping. Parking is free, museum fee $2.00 per adult, $1.00 for children and dogs. There is plentiful parking, no overnight parking. The road going up to the park is rutted by water run-off and somewhat narrow.

Leased dogs welcome. Clean-up bags provided.
