Backyard of the Day:

Horton Plaza, San Diego, California

Horton Plaza is a shopping center located at the corners of
Fourth Avenue and Broadway in Downtown San Diego, California

Vi camperede ved stationen og tog sporvognen til Horton Plaza, et indkøbscenter opkaldt efter byfader Alonzo Erastus Horton.

We day camped at the station and took the trolley to Horton Plaza, a shopping center named after city father Alonzo Erastus Horton.

Mit yndlingssted i Horton Plaza er Irving John Gills springvand, der står i et haveanlæg foran indkøbscentret.

My favorite place in Horton Plaza is Irving John Gill's fountain, which is in front of the shopping center.

Alonzo Erastus Horton midt i den by, han grundlagde i 1867, som han aldrig i sin vildeste fantasi ville have kunnet forestille sig, som den ser ud i dag.

Alonzo Erastus Horton in the middle of the city he founded in 1867, which he would never have imagined in his wildest dreams as it looks today.

In the middle of Horton Plaza stands Jessop's clock, which was built by Claude Ledger in 1907, and is still accurate. The clock was constructed for Joseph Jessop's jewelry store, and it took fifteen months for Ledger to build. The clock has stopped only three times - one being when Claude Ledger died, which made the papers the world over.

Boondocking Information

There is no real parking to accomodate oversized vehicles at Horton Plaza. Street parking is metered and hard to come by, and the parking garage belonging to the Horton Plaza mall has very low clearance.
Our solution was to park at the trolley station (I believe they all have all-day free parking) and take the trolley ($5.00 for a day pass) which stops within a couple of blocks from Horton Plaza.
