Tonto Natural Bridge is the world's largest natural travertine bridge. It is 183 feet tall and 150 feet wide on the inside, and a natural spring above the bridge forms a misty waterfall in front of the entrance to the cavern.

Tonto Natural Bridge was discovered in 1877 by David Gowan, a Scottish prospector, who came across it, when he was fleeing a flock of Apache Indians. Inside the bridge are small caves, and he hid in one of them for three days, before he dared to come back out. When he saw the green valley surrounding the bridge, he decided to settle here.

It is hard to get an impression of the size of the bridge. If you can see the little "stick" in the lower right hand quarter of the picture, that's about the size of an adult.

A little ways from the Tonto Natural Bridge is another little waterfall.
