Dagens baghave:

Backyard of the Day:

Daley Ranch, Escondido, San Diego County, California

Daley Ranch is located at the end of La Honda Drive in Escondido, San Diego County, California.

We felt like we needed a little hike today, so we day camped at Daley Ranch in Escondido, which is surrounded by lots of wilderness and some hilly terrain.

The rest of San Diego county was socked in today, but before we knew it we'd walked up into the sunshine above the cloud cover.

Not much in the way of flowers... They're a bit dry this time of the year.

Daley Ranch is an old farm, which originally belonged to a young English immigrant named Robert Daley, born in England in 1845. He settled here in 1869, but his first cabin no longer exists. Today a pond sits where it stood.
Robert Daley lived here the rest of his life with his wife Rebecca, and their daughter Mary and two sons George and Howard were born here. Robert Daley died in 1916, after which his family moved to Jamul, but they kept the ranch as a vacation home and cattle ranch. They built the present farmhouse, which is in the process of being renovated, in the late 1920s.
A little ways from the house stands the delapidated, but pictoresque, barn.

Den gamle udendørs bageovn står her endnu.

The old outdoor oven still stands here.

Not far from the ranch house is Middle Pond, which is one of three ponds located on the property.

Three times Daley Ranch was nearly developed with plans for as many as 4800 residences. Fortunately something always got in the way of development, and in 1996 the property was bought by Escondido to be preserved as wilderness area.
