G. A. Schimpff's Confectionery is located at 347 Spring Street in downtown Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana

This morning we drove about a half hour to Louisville, Kentucky, and crossed the bridge over the Ohio River to Jeffersonville, Indiana, where we were visiting one of the oldest candy kitchens in the US.

The Schimpff family have been confectioners in this area since the 1850s, and have had this particular store since 1891, through four generations.

Jill Schimpff viste os, hvor højt vandet nåede op, da Ohio-floden gik over sine bredder i 1883 og 1884. Da den gik over sine bredder igen i 1937, nåede vandet til midt på vinduerne ovenpå i privaten, og bedstemor Schimpff måtte hentes i robåd for at kunne komme ud derfra.

Jill Schimpff showed us how high the water rose, then the Ohio River flooded the area in 1883 and 1884. When it flooded again in 1937, the water reached the middle of the windows in the upstairs residence, and grandmother Schimpff had to be taken out of there in a row boat.

Behind the store is an amazing candy museum.

The candy making is done with the same recipes and the same antique kitchen implements they used here for 118 years.

Den fineste chokoladeæske, jeg nogensinde har set.

The finest box of chocolate I've ever seen in my life.
