Bernardino County, California.

I can't say how many times we've
come by here and said to each other "wow, wonder what's down
there." Today we took the road less traveled in order to find out. |

|
The road first winds its way
past Soda Dry Lake, a long evaporated playa, which stretches white
and flat to the dunes beyond. |

Further down the road lies Zzyzx
Mineral Springs, or Soda Springs, as it was once called. In the
1940's it was established as a health spa by Curtis Howe Springer,
although it was public land. He was arrested in 1974, and today this
is home to scientists studying the desert environment. |
