Shelter Island, San Diego, California

Shelter Island is located at the end of Shelter Island Drive
in Point Loma, San Diego, California.

Vi camperede ved Shelter Island i dag. Shelter Island er en kunstig halvø dannet af mudder, der blev gravet op under uddybelsen af San Diego Bugten i 1930'erne og 1940'erne.

We daycamped at Shelter Island today. Shelter Island is a manmade peninsula made from mud that was dug up during the dredging of San Diego Bay in the 1930s and 1940s.

 

 

 

Shelter Island har sin egen lille lystfiskermole.

Venskabsklokken er en gave fra San Diegos søsterby, Yokohama, Japan, og er fra 1958. Selve klokken er to meter høj og vejer over to tons. Den er lavet af Masahiko Katori.

The Friendship Bell is a gift from San Diego's sister town, Yokohama, Japan, and is from 1958. The bell itself is 6 feet tall and weighs over two tons. It was made by Masahiko Katori.

Day Camping/Boondocking Information

Shelter Island is an excellent spot for daycamping, if a bit overrun by RVs in summer.
Overnight camping/parking is not permitted according to posted signs, however, more than a dozen RVs camp here not just overnight, but some of them even stay on a semipermanent basis, and we have never heard that anyone bothered campers for staying the night.
