Backyard of the Day:

Taos Pueblo, Taos, Taos County, New Mexico

Taos Pueblo is located in Taos, New Mexico.

We drove to Taos, New Mexico, where we visited Taos Pueblo, an Indian community that is one of the world's longest inhabited places with houses over 1000 years old.

The Indians living in Taos Pueblo still have neither electricity or running water. They bake in outdoor adobe ovens, cook over fire, and get water from the creek that runs through the pueblo.

Kirkegården ligger omkring ruinerne af landsbyens første to San Jeronimo kirker.

The cemetery lies around the ruins of the pueblo's first two Saint Jeronimo churches.

Lunch was Indian frybread with chokecherry syrup, pork casserole with red chili, a piece of piñon-apple-prune pie, baked in the outdoor adobe oven, and lots of stories from the owner about life in Taos Pueblo.

Camping/Boondocking Information

We followed the Rio Grande down to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and are camping at Rancheros de Santa Fe Campground. We have stayed here before, and we love this park, not only because it is close to town, but also because the view can't be beat.
We are paying $23 per night with AAA for partial hookups.
