Backyard of the Day:

Taylor Guitars, El Cajon, San Diego County, California

Taylor Guitars is located at 1980 Gillespie Way in El Cajon, San Diego County, California

In 1974 18-year-old Bob Taylor and 20-year-old Kurt Listug opened the Taylor Guitar factory in El Cajon, hoping that by building guitars they could avoid ever having "real" jobs and bosses. Taylor Guitars has since captured a significant chunk of the international guitar market.
Today we got to tour the factory and see how they build the guitars, and personally I renewed my resolution to some day get serious about learning more than three chords.

It all starts with lots and lots of perfectly ordinary piles of lumber. Okay, not perfectly ordinary. Very fine lumber, actually. Mahogany and Indian rosewood and that kind of stuff.

Day Camping/Boondocking Information

The Taylor Guitar Factory is not a suitable place for day camping. While the factory's private parking lot is large, it is both crowded and long and narrow, and it would be difficult to park any sizeable RV here. There is some curbside parking, but this seemed to also fill up quickly. The lot is private and is not available for overnight camping/parking.

Facilities:

Taylor Guitar Factory tours
Taylor Guitar gift shop
Restrooms
