Kateri Tekakwitha blev født i New York i 1656.

The church has a small room devoted to Kateri Tekakwitha, also known as Lily of the Mohawks.
Kateri Tekakwitha was born in New York in 1656. Her mother was a Catholic Algonquin Indian, her father a Mohawk warrior. At four years old Kateri Tekakwitha lost her mother to smallpox, which scarred her own face as well and left her partially blind, and she was sent to live with relatives. She was influenced by her mother's faith to convert herself, which caused her to be alienated from the Mohawks. Children would throw stones at her, people would shout insults at her, and she eventually moved to Canada to live an ascetic and devoted life in a commune of Christian Indians. Because of her constant poor health Kateri Tekakwitha died in 1680 at 24 years of age. After her death her gravesite attracted crowds of Native American and French colonist pilgrims.
