Dagens baghave:

Backyard of the Day:

Sonoma Historic State Park & Mission San Francisco Solano, Sonoma, Sonoma County, California

Sonoma Historic State Park covers several blocks in Sonoma, Sonoma County, California. Mission San Francisco Solano is today part of Sonoma Historic State Park and is no longer an active congregation.

The day started with morning coffee at Rainbow's End Café in Boulder Rock, just outside Big Basin Redwoods State Park, which was quite the lively place with free wi-fi and live entertainment at 7 o'clock in the morning. Two sequoia trees grow right out of a hole in the floor and up through the roof, and in every way it's an establishment with character.
It was exactly what we needed to give us a boost to go brave San Francisco morning traffic, which was even more horrific than I ever remember having seen it. We soon decided to skip our planned quickie visit in town, and settled for driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, since it was April's only wish for visiting San Francisco, and well... it's not like we weren't actually going that way anyway.

North of Golden Gate we made a detour away from the coast and old Highway 1 and drove through California's wine country...

Mission San Francisco Solano was established by Padre José Altimira in 1823, and was the last and northernmost of the twentyone Californian missions. In contrast to most of the other Franciscan missions, this one is no longer used as a church, but is maintained only as a museum.
