Normanden Snowshoe Thompson (født Jon Thorsteinson-Rue) boede i Diamond Valley. Norwegian native Snowshoe Thompson (born Jon Thorsteinson-Rue) lived in Diamond Valley. He became famous by reporting for duty when no mail carrier could be found to deliver mail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the winter. Skis were unknown in the US at the time, and snowshoes were inadequate. Thompson remembered skis from his childhood in Norway and from memory built a pair of oak, 10 feet long, weighing 25 pounds. He delivered his first round of mail in 1856, and people came out of their homes to see the norseman "fly through the snow."
