Dagens baghave:

Backyard of the Day:

Yellowstone National Park, Yellowstone,
Teton County, Wyoming

Yellowstone National Park is located north of Grand Teton National Park in Teton County, Wyoming.

We drove from Grand Teton National Park north to our campground in Yellowstone last night, and awoke here this morning... in the unbelievably beautiful land of hellfire and brimstone. The day started off with snow, but it wasn't long before the sun came out.

Yellowstone National Park is the earth's largest geo-thermal area, and in 1872 it became the world's first national park. Here are thousands of geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, and boiling mudpots.

The colors in the hot springs are caused by the various microorganisms that live in the different water temperatures. Blue water has very few organisms, while red, green, and yellow springs take their color from them.

Lake Yellowstone

Under Lake Yellowstone lies a volcano, which formed this geyser basin during an eruption more than a hundred thousand years ago.

Fishing Cone

The water in Fishing Cone is 199° F, and in the 1870s the place became known for fishermen being able to catch a trout, and then turn around and boil it in Fishing Cone without even taking it off the hook.

Lakeside Spring

Lakeshore Geyser

In 1870 this volcano erupted, covering the surrounding pine forest in mud. On that same occasion the volcano blew itself to pieces, so that today it is nothing more than a big hole full of boiling mud.
