June 11, 2008 Dansk tekst til venstre English text on the right Dagens baghave: Backyard of the Day: Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Vail, Eagle County, Colorado The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens are located at 183 Gore Creek Drive in Ford Park, Vail, Eagle County, Colorado.   Vi havde håbet på en tur gennem Rocky Mountain National Park i dag, men vi har endnu engang undervurderet vintervejrets hårdnakkethed, og til vores overraskelse er der snestorm på toppen, og de gennemgående veje er lukket. Så vi måtte udenom, og trøstede os med en tur i Vails Alpine Gardens, verdens højest beliggende botaniske have, som var en ringe erstatning, men det smagte da altid lidt af fugl. We had high hopes for our trip through Rocky Mountain National Park today, but once again we have underestimated the tenacity of winter, and to our surprise there's a snowstorm at the top, and the thoroughfares are both closed. So we had to console ourselves with a visit to Vail's Alpine Gardens, the world's highest altitude botanical gardens, which was rather a poor substitute, but at least it was a little Rocky Mountain-ish. And, as gardens go, I must say, it was really very nice.       Vi fik et enkelt rensdyr med på vejen ~ We got a peak at a reindeer along the way     Betty Ford Alpine Gardens ligger i knap 2½ kilometers højde. Most of the plants in the gardens can withstand both long sunny days and freezing nights most of the year. The garden is named after first lady Betty Ford, who, along with Gerald Ford has had a home outside of Vail for many years.
