Trip to Israel 26 August-2 September 1986
	~ 26 August 1986 ~ Chagall Windows We went to the Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center to see Marc Chagall's stained glass windows symbolizing the twelve tribes of Israel.   "Reuben, you are my first-born. My might and first fruit of my vigor. Exceeding in rank and exceeding in honor. Unstable as water, you shall excel no longer."     "Asher's bread shall be rich and he shall yield royal dainties." "Most blessed sons be asher ... May he dip his foot in oil"     "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he consumes the foe." "Beloved of the Lord, He rests securely beside Him."     "Dan shall govern his people... Shall be a serpent by the road, A viper by the path, that bites the horses' heels..."     "Gad shall be raided by raiders, but he shall raid at their heels."     "You, O Judah, your brother shall praise; Your hand shall be on the nape of your foes... Judah is a lion's whelp... The sceptor shall not depart from Judah."   "Joseph is a fruitful bough by a spring. Its branches run over a wall. Blessed of the Lord by his land."   "Zebulon shall dwell by the seashore; He shall be a haven for ships."     "Simeon and Levi are a pair; Their weapons are tools of lawlessness ... Cursed be their anger so fierce, And their wrath so relentless."     "Your precepts alone they observed; and kept Your covenant. They shall teach Your norms to Jacob and Your instruction to Israel"   "Naphtali is a hind let loose, Which yields goodly words."   "Issachar is a strong-boned ass, Crouching between the saddlebags. When he saw how good was security, And how pleasant was the country, He bent his shoulder to the burden."

In the afternoon we went shopping at the bazaar in the Old City.

	~ 27 August 1986 ~ Greater Jerusalem We went to the Israel Museum where the Dead Sea scrolls are kept.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre A multi-denominational church considered by Catholic and Greek Orthodox faith to be at the burial place of Christ

	~ 28 August 1986 ~ Old Jerusalem & Dome on the Rock We walked around the Old City on the ramparts   Dome on the Rock Church of the Dormition where Mary the mother of Jesus is believed to have died.   The Citadel       Jaffa Gate Damascus Gate

We visited the Mosque of Omar ~ Dome on the Rock               Dome on the Rock ca. 1835

~ 29 August 1986 ~ Bethlehem "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." MICAH 5:2 "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem." MATTHEW 2:1   Church of the Nativity     "And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." LUKE 2:8-12

	~ 30 August 1986 ~ Montezuma's Revenge! Baaaad falafel... and that's all I've got to say about that.
	~ 31 August 1986 ~ Knesset We went to church at Jerusalem Church of the Nazarene, and then we visited the Knesset   We had dinner at a Mexican (!) restaurant

~ 1 September 1986 ~ Mount of Olives Church at the Garden of Gethsemane "Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” MATTHEW 26:36-39 Church of St. Mary Magdalene             Cemetery on the Mount of Olives where we met "Ali Baba," who took us to see the Church of Dormition and Hezekiah's Tunnel to the Pool of Shiloam. Place I was sitting that night with Ali Baba's cousin Saire, when I was hauled of to the Jerusalem Municipal Jail
