This
indenture made the Fifteenth day of June A. D. 1868 between William
Sutherland and his wife Jane P. Sutherland of Victoria County and
State of Texas of the first part, and Samuel P. Hughes of the Parish
of St. Mary and State of Louisiana of the second part, witnesseth;
that the Said party of the first part for and in consideration of the
sum of Two hundred and Thirty Six Dollars to them in hand paid by the
Said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth
bargain and sell unto the said party of the second part and to heirs
and assigns forever. All of the West half of the North West quarter
of Section No. 14 and the North East quarter of the South East
Quarter of Section no. 15 of Township 15 Range Six East, also the
North West quarter of the North East quarter and the North half of
the North West Quarter of Section No. 17 and the North East quarter
of the North East quarter of Section No. 18 of Township 15 Range
Seven East, the same being and lying in the Parish of St. Mary and
State of Louisiana; together with all and singular the hereditamants
and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any will appertaining;
and also all the Estate, right, title, interest, claim or demand
whatsoever of them the said party of the first part, either in law or
equity, of, in and to the above bargained premises and to every part
and parcel thereof, to have and to hold to the said party of the
second part his heirs and assigns forever!
In
witness whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto signed

The State

Personally
appeared before me C. Carsner, County Judge of Said County, Wm.
Sutherland who signed the written deed bearing date of the 15th day
of June, and acknowledged the signature to be his act and deed for
the use and consideration therein named.
Also
appeared Jane P. Sutherland wife of Wm. Sutherland party to the
within deed and having been examined by me privily and apart from her
husband and having the same fully explained to her, she the said Jane
P. Sutherland acknowledged the same to be her act and deed, and
declared that she had willingly signed, sealed, and delivered the
same, and that she wished not to retract it.
To
certify which I hereunto sign my name and affix the seal of my office

St. Mary
Before me
James G. Parkerson, Recorder and Ex-officio Notary Public, duly
commissioned and sworn in and for the Parish of St. Mary, in presence
of the witnesses herein after named and undersigned, personally came
and appeared Samuel P. Hughes a resident of this Parish of St. Mary,
who declared that for and in consideration of the sum and price of
Two hundred and Thirty Six 00/100 Dollars cash in hand paid, (Receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged and good acquittance and discharge
given thereof) he did and does by these presents bargain, sell,
assign, convey, set over and deliver unto Ursin Walker, also a
resident of this Parish of St. Mary here present and accepting the
following property, to wit:
That
certain tract of land lying & being situate in this Parish of St.
Mary, being all of the West half of the North West quarter of Section
No. 14 and the North East quarter of the South East quarter of
Section no. 15 of Township 15 Range Six East; also the North West
quarter of the North East quarter and the North half of the North
West Quarter of Section No. 17 and the North East quarter of the
North East quarter of Section No. 18 of Township 15 Range Seven East;
this being the same property acquired by the present vendor by act
under private signature, from Wm. Sutherland & wife, this day
recorded in book "P" of Conveyances of my office.
To have
and to hold the said conveyed property unto the said purchaser his
heirs and assigns, in full property forever, with full and general
warranty of title, free from all liens, mortgages and incumbrances
whatever, and with full subrogation to all the rights of warranty and
all other rights held into the said property by the present vendor.
The
parties agree to dispende with the Certificate required by Article
3328 of the Civil Code of this State, and exonerate me, said
Recorder, from all liability on account of the non-production of the same.
The U. S.
Internal Revenue Tax, of Fifty cents upon this act, has been paid as
required by the U. S. Int. Rev. Law.
Thus done
and passed at my office in the Parish of St. Mary, on this Thirtieth
day of October Eighteen hundred and Sixty Eight in presence of
Frederick C. Palfrey & Samuel L. Randlett both competent
witnesses, who have signed these presents with the said appearers and
me, Said Recorder, after due reading. Samuel P. Hughes, Ursin Walker,
F. C. Palfrey, Saml. L. Randlett, J. G. Parkerson, Recorder.
