A BOY DROWNED

Walter Hughes, a boy of 10 years, who lived at 4514 St. Claude Avenue, was drowned last afternoon ni [sic] the Lourdon Avenue Canal on Jourdon Avenue and Claiborne Street. The little fellow, with a companion, Frank Hefoney, went into the canal for a swim, and Hughes was attacked with cramps and was drowned before his friend could help him. The body was recovered an the Coroner granted permission to have it removed to the home of the parents of the unfortunate lad.
