NEGRO CHILD HURT

Eloise Wilkens, 7-year-old negro, was knocked down on Magazine street near Valence street Wednesday night by an automobile operated by Edward A. Hughes, 33 years old, 1802 Desire street, police reported. Hughes took the child to Touro Infermary where she was treated for brush burns and then took her to her home, 4508 Constance street. her condition is not serious. Hughes told police the girl ran from between two parked automobiles. No action was taken against him.

TWO DRIVERS GET JAIL SENTENCES

Four Others Draw Fines in Lightest Court Docket of Summer

Two men went to jail from traffic court Monday. Four were fined, five discharged, nineteen affidavits were granted and five attachments issued from the lightest week-end docket of the summer.
Hannibal Hence, 629 South Prieur street, and Eugene Seymour, 1035 Valence street, negroes, were fined $15 or thirty days each for reckless driving and causing damage. They failed to pay the fine and were committed to the parish prison.
Withdrawals of charges by complainants were entered in the cases of Noah Smallwood, no home, charged by Mrs. C. E. McGee, 3125 Louisiana Parkway, with reckless driving and causing damage; Willie Adams, 2004 France street, charged by J. P. Briant, 600 North Broad street, and R. H. Comeaux, 311 North Rampart street, with speeding, reckless driving, causing damage and with overloading a two-passenger car; John Maguire, 2125 Gallier street, charged by Lucian Benino, 444 Clara street, with reckless driving, causing damage and minor injury.
Discharges were ordered in the cases of Martin Pratt, 1428 Josephine street, no license, and P. Hunter, 863 Pine street, turning on red signal.
Fines also were assessed against Lee Daykin, 3953 Tschoupitoulas street, passing on right, no license, $10; Emile Stein, 8834 Oleander street, parking without lights; Elizabeh [sic] Henry, 3817 Napoleon avenue, failing to keep to a right, no license; Rodger le Breton, 3634 Coliseum street, no license.
Attachments were issued for Joseph K. Baker, 2622 Canal street, charged with reckless driving, damage; Gervais Favrot, 3316 Versailles street, speeding thirty-five miles per hour, no license; Russell Cuoca, 500 South Cortez street, speeding thirty miles per hour with truck, failure to stop for right-of-way; Joseph Aguilar, 3211 Toulouse street, reckless driving, causing damage and injury; Cornell Fleming, 2060 St. Andrew street, speeding thirty-five miles, ignoring traffic signal.
Affidavits on charges of reckless driving and causing damage were granted to Joseph Donnigan, 1014 North Rampart street; Tony Genua, Kenner, La.; Moreno Locantro, 2936 Jefferson avenue; Robert Brent, 2626 South Robertson street; John Canerrie, 4034 Laurel street; Edward Burke, 5922 Clio street; Charles Rostroup, 607 Slidell street; Carmelo Polito, 1822 New Orleans street.
Affidavits on speed charges were granted to Charles Philip, 2508 Cleveland street; Edward Hughes, 1802 Desire street, also reckless driving; Emile de Barburis, 2803 Powhatan street, also ignoring officers' signal; Earl Guillot, 1619 Arabella street, also no signal at turn.
Affidavits were also granted to Theodore Harris, 6909 Olive street, ignoring traffic signal, no license; George Mayers, 1052 Camp street, ignoring officer's signal; John B. Ferrata, 7633 Hampson street, no license plate; Janave L. Tricke, 8317 Spruce street, ignoring traffic signal; William C. Wright, 1729 Dryades street, ignoring officer's signal.

MOTHER ASKS SON'S AID

Edward Hughes, 1802 Desire street, was cited Thursday by Judge E. K. Skinner of the civil district court to show cause why he should not be compelled to pay an allowance of $6 a week to his mother, Mrs. Mary Hughes, of 3919 Royal street. The mother declared she was unable to work and had no means of support. She charged that the son had neglected to contribute to her support.

Warning Honked to Jitney Driver Causes Arrest

Police Squad Picks Up Motorist on Charge of Interference

Because he was too much concerned over the welfare of a fellow driver, John Helmke, 34 years old, 3904 Franklin avenue, was arrested Saturday at Royal and Canal streets by members of the "jitney squad" and charged with interfering with police.
Helmke, police say, drove up beside an automobile driven by Richard Byrnes, 33, 2624 Jonquil street, and after blowing his horn to attract Byrnes' attention called out to him that police were in his car. Both Helmke and Byrnes were arrested, the latter for violating the jitney ordinance.
Other alleged jitney drivers booked during the day were Ferdinand Finkbeiner, 32, 3209 Annunciation street; Ralph Armstrong, 22, 3233 Annuciation street; Anthony Bendi, 63, 1210 Almonaster avenue; Sylvester Leppiccele, 47, 818 Bourbon street; Vincent Asara, 18, 3702 Dumaine street; Peter Montalbano, 34, 611 Bertrand street; Amor North, 25, 741 Lessepa street; Roy Ussery, 33, 2426 St. James street; Julian C. Cotaya, 31, 2734 St. Philip street; James Parrino, 27, 2722 Wisteria street; and Edward Hughes, 35, 1802 Desire street.

RECORDER FINES TWENTY IN WAR AGAINST JITNEYS

Seven Are Convicted and 13 Others Enter Guilty Pleas

Judge Emile Leonard, in second recorder's court, Wednesday began disposing of the 300 jitney cases on his docket by trying seven alleged violators and fining 13 who pleaded guilty.
All of the seven who went to trial were found guilty, and fined $25 with the alternative of serving 30 days in jail. The 13 who pleaded guilty were fined $10, or 30 days in jail.
Judge Leonard announced that he will try alleged violators of the jitney ordinance each Wednesday until his docket is clear. Joseph Galverina, assistant secretary to the superintendent of police, and Frank J. Meridier, representing Safety Commissioner Paul B. Habans, took the witness stand in case tried Wednesday and testified that the accused had not posted the $5000 bond required by the jitney ordinance.
Those who went to trial and were found guilty by Judge Leonard are:
William Evans, 4927 Venus; C. Naquin, 1224 North Claiborne; John Uhle, 1919 Pauline, two affidavits; Gerard Lang, 3322 North Claiborne, two affidavits; Christie Raceivich, 2465 Villiere; Peter Keller, 1416 Port, and Joseph Gerosa, 4310 Burgundy.
