	Mission San Luis Rey de Francia was built June 13, 1798. It is the largest of the California Missions, and is often referred to as the "Queen of the Missions". Peyri Court is named after Spanish missionary Antonio Peyri, who was the architect of Mission San Luis Rey. It is a cloister yard where the padres could meditate. 	The Sunken Gardens are filled with fruit trees and surrounded outside the adobe walls by Prickly Pear cactus. Here the Indian women washed clothes in water spouting from gargoyles.
